"Gardening Angels" Volunteer Program
Cottage Lake Gardens began a volunteer program in the fall of 2012. The program provides volunteers with an opportunity to expand their gardening expertise and horticultural knowledge while forming new friendships and having fun. They receive hands-on training in areas that suit their interests, talents and abilities. They also feel pride in contributing to making Cottage Lake Gardens an exceptional botanical garden for the community.
Below are examples of volunteer projects:
- Learn to identify plants in the garden's botanical collection by both common and botanical names;
- Label and inventorying plants in the plant database;
- Assist in the development and editing of garden beds including the introduction of new plant selections as well as care of the existing plant collection;
- Propagation of plants by cuttings, division and sowing of seeds; and
- Serve as garden docent for tours and plant sales.
Volunteer sessions are scheduled on Tuesdays and Sundays (February through October - 1 pm to 4pm.) Scheduling is flexible with volunteers coming on days that work best for their schedule.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer contact Susie Egan at volunteers@cottagelakegardens.com or telephone her at (425) 788-1952.
